VP Switch-a-roo

September 10th apparently wasn't a great day for Vice Presidential running mates. First Wayne Allen Root, the VP nominee for the Libertarian Party offers to step down if Ron Paul is willing to take his place (which he's not). Then at a rally in Nashu, NH Joe Biden says Hillary Clinton would have made a better Vice Presidential candidate than him.

Can a VP or even the Presidential nominee be changed after they are elected via their party's nominating convention?

I think it all depends on each party's bylaws according to rules committees.
